The first English Colony, Virginia had mostly English settlers, for obvious reasons. 50 acres were given to men who settled here, plus an additional 100 acres, if they purchasrd stock in the Virginia Company. Many settlers had black slaves and white indentured servants with them. Colonists who came here were skilled in various trades, such as shoemakers, brickmakers, and tailors. As well as unskilled laborers, who escaped unemployment in England, to work on plantations.
